There is nothing wrong with a trusted independent technician. Many are excellent, and plenty of our clients came to us from one they still speak well of. But at some point the model runs out of runway, and the warning signs are consistent.
- Nothing is documented, so the answer to any question is "let me check when I'm there".
- One person holds every password, and their vacation is a business risk.
- Work is reactive — nobody is patching, monitoring or testing restores between emergencies.
- You can't get an answer about compliance, insurance questionnaires or an audit request.
- Response depends on whether they're on another client's site that day.
- Hardware purchases are ad hoc, with no standard build and no refresh plan.
- Nobody has ever shown you a report — of tickets, uptime, backups or spend.
What changes with a team
Coverage stops depending on one person's calendar. Documentation exists and belongs to you. Patching, monitoring and backup verification happen whether or not anyone filed a ticket. And there's someone whose job is to think about next year, not just today's outage.
If several of those seven sound familiar, a free consultation is a low-risk way to find out how big the gap actually is. We'll tell you honestly if you don't need us yet.
